PGWhat?!
'On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog.' At least so they
say.
Well if the dog is using PGP
he can prove his identity to you! PGP is a 'public
key' encryption/decryption and signing method and it's the de
facto standard for secure email. You might want to encrypt a
message so that only the adressee will be able to read it, or you
might wan't to sign a message to prove that you wrote it.
So here's one for you:
To read the signed message above you need:
- The PGP-program.
- Or if you are using Linux,
you will want the
equivalent program called GPG , which will most
likely already be installed on your computer. In
addition, I recommend installing a nice graphical
interface called KGpg, which
has most of the functions that the Windows PGP has.
- My PGP Public key (Copy it to the
clipboard and then choose "import from
clipboard" in PGP.)
- Copy the message to your PGP-program and it will verify
that it was signed with the secret pair of my public key!
(Using Windows this can be done by selecting the message
above and then copying it to the clipboard. Then click on
the 'PGPTray'-icon on the right side of the taskbar and
choose 'Decrypt/Verify clipboard'.)
